Description

The Community Shares Unit is very excited to be launching the Community Shares Standard Mark on Tuesday 30th June at the new FC United stadium in Manchester, which was built with the help of community shares.

The CSU is promoting national standards of good practice for community share offers and the Mark has been introduced for share offer documents which meet these standards. This event will be a valuable opportunity for community enterprises, practitioners and supporters to find out how the Standard Mark will work and how they can get involved.

To kick things off we will be launching Community Shares - Inside the Market Report: the first-ever dedicated market report, profiling ‘how’ and ‘why’ more people are investing in co-operative and community enterprises through community shares. We are then thrilled to have a statement from the new DCLG Minster Marcus Jones MP to welcome in the Standard Mark, along with contributions from the CSU’s respective project partner CEOs Ed Mayo and Tony Armstrong, from Co-operatives UK and Locality. The morning session will finish with a discussion from representatives from The Power to Change, Access and CAF to explore how community shares will link in with their funding programmes, supported by the Standard Mark.

In the afternoon we will be focusing on how community shares and the Standard Mark can add value for practitioners across various sectors and backgrounds, with a series of workshops focusing on its application in urban environments, among rural communities and for community energy ventures.

All this will take place in the amazing surrounds of FC United’s new ground at Broadhurst Park, Moston, Manchester – to see living proof of the fantastic achievements community shares can bring.
